Welcome to BIM Research Group
Building Information Modelling Centre for Digital Innovations and Solutions
The Building Information Modelling (BIM) Research Group at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) is a multidisciplinary team dedicated to advancing digital construction and smart project delivery through the application and development of BIM technologies. Positioned within UTM’s Faculty of Built Environment and Surveying, the group brings together researchers, academics, and industry partners to explore innovative solutions in digital construction, integrated project delivery, and sustainable design.
With a focus on research, training, and industry engagement, the BIM Research Group supports Malaysia’s national agenda on digital transformation in the construction sector. Key areas of expertise include BIM implementation strategies, data integration and interoperability, BIM for facilities management, and the development of BIM-based educational frameworks. Through publications, collaborative projects, and consultation services, the group plays a pivotal role in shaping BIM practices within both academic and professional domains in Malaysia and beyond.
Our Tagline
At the BIM Research Group, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, our tagline “Beyond BIM” represents more than just a slogan—it defines our direction and identity.
While Building Information Modelling (BIM) remains at the core of our expertise, we go further by exploring its integration with next-generation technologies such as digital twins, AI, IoT, and blockchain. Our research focuses not only on improving project coordination and modelling, but also on enabling smart decision-making, sustainable construction, and asset lifecycle optimisation.
“Beyond BIM” reflects our vision to lead digital transformation in the built environment through innovation, education, and industry collaboration. We aim to shape the future of construction by moving past traditional applications of BIM—into new frontiers of knowledge, practice, and impact.
